General Business License Information

Before filling out an application there are a couple of questions to ask about your business.
- Is your business going to be in a commercial subdivision?
- Commercial Subdivision’s are typically in the commercial zone (CP-2) of the city. To find if your business is permitted (P) in this zone visit HCMC §11.12 – Commercial Land Use.
- If your business is permitted in the CP-2 zone, fill out the general business license application below.
- If your business is permitted under conditions (C), then email questions@harrisvillecity.gov for the next steps.
- Is your business going to be in your home?
- Will this business be a home office with no visiting cliental?
- If so, fill out the Home Occupation application below.
- Will this business have visiting cliental/employees/daycare/preschool?
- If so, email questions@harrisvillecity.gov for the next steps.
- Will this business be a home office with no visiting cliental?
- Will you be renting all of / a portion of your home?
- Go to the rental section below for application and regulations.
- Business license’s expire December 31 of every year. There is no prorating of the license fees. Business license renewals are sent via email each November and are due at the end of December. Late fees are assessed per HCMC §3.01.060.

Home Occupation Application
A home occupation license can be anything from a simple office to a daycare. There are two categories for a home occupation. They both revolve around whether or not you will have visiting cliental. HCMC §11.10 Residential Zone Special Use Regulations -(9) Home Occupations.

Alcohol License Information
Before submitting an alcohol license to the city you will need to contact the Division of Alcohol & Beverage Control at (801) 977-6800.
Solicitors Application
Any soliciting done in the city requires a license. Below is the application along with the ordinance listing the rules and regulations. The application fee is $188.61 per person. Rental License
Any owner of a rental dwelling unit shall obtain and maintain a current business license with the city in order to be in compliance with city code HCMC §3.15 – Good Landlord Program. A “Rental dwelling unit” means any individual dwelling unit that is rented, loaned, leased, or hired out to be used or occupied as a home or residence.
Internal Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) may be rented out if they meet the requirements found in HCMC §11.20.260 Internal Accessory Dwelling Units.
